Intersen Phase
Rynfield Primary School follows the CAPS Curriculum from grades R-7 as prescribed for Public Schools. We have a proud tradition of our learners being readily accepted into High Schools. Both locally as well as outside the province.
Grades 4, 5, 6 and 7 - Subjects
Summary of Formal Assessment in Grade 7:
- First Language – English
- Additional Language – Afrikaans
- Mathematics
- Social Sciences – Geography and History
- Natural Sciences

- Life Orientation
Grades 4, 5, 6 and 7 - Promotion Requirements as follows:
- English – A minimum of a level 4 [50% – 59%]
- Afrikaans – A minimum of a level 3 [40% – 49%]
- Mathematics – A minimum of a level 3 [40% – 49%]
- Any other three subjects – A minimum of a level 3 [40% – 49%]
- Any other two subjects – A minimum of a level 2 [30% – 39%]
Control tests are written in June and November in Grades 4 to7
Intersen Phase Merit System
We follow a merit system where learners are rewarded for a positive work ethic by receiving merits which earn points for their respective houses. These learners are identified weekly and stand up for acknowledgement in our Junior and Senior Assemblies. The house with the most points at the end of the term will win the house trophy.
Our annual prize-giving for Grades 4 – 7 is held at the end of the year, to celebrate the learners’ academic achievements
Academic Awards
Grade 6
These are awarded to the learners who have achieved an average of 75% or more in any of the academic subjects.
A Silver Certificate is awarded to learners who have an overall average of between seventy-five percent to seventy-nine percent and have achieved seventy-five percent for all of the academic subjects.
A Gold Certificate is awarded to learners who have achieved eighty percent or above as an overall average and have achieved seventy-five percent or more for all of the academic subjects.
We award half colours to learners who have achieved a seventy-seven percent to seventy-nine percent as an overall average.
We award full colours to learners who have achieved an overall average of eighty percentage or above.
Grade 7
These are awarded to the learners who have achieved an average of 75% or more in any of the academic subjects.

Grade 7 Special Awards
- Subject Awards - This is awarded to the Grade 7 learner who achieves the highest in each academic subject.
- Runner Up - Dux Award - This is awarded to a learner who has achieved the second highest Year Mark for the Academic achievement in Grade 7.
- Dux Award - The Dux Award is awarded to the learner who has achieved the highest overall Year Mark for Academic achievement in Grade 7.
- School Honour Awards - The Principal’s award School fellowship award Rotary award.
